Strange Wolf Basement Bar
Year: 2009
Role: Identity Design, Website Design, Neon Signage & Screen Printed Wallpaper Design
Tools: Photoshop and Illustrator
The Brief
The client approached me to design the wallpaper and neon signage for the interior and entrance of a new cocktail basement bar opening in Melbourne. They wanted the bar to be subtly inspired by the work of conceptual artists Joseph Beuys and Dan Flavin. This would also tie in to the overall branding of the venue and be incorporated in their stationary, menus, invites and packaging for food.
The Outcome
The final concept for the wallpaper was a silhouette of one of Joseph Beuys Actions involving a Coyote, walking stick and a blanket. Set in a wreath of apples and skulls this image was approx 1.2 meters X 80cm repeated as wallpaper. A typeface was designed and used for the logotype which was also used for the neon sign at the bar’s entrance. Different section of the bar had little ambient coloured neon lights to echo aspects of Dan Flavins Installations.
